Your AD plant can increase its revenue by over £100,000 per year, by simply identifying and fixing its methane leaks following ADBA’s Certification Scheme with Leak Detection and Repair systems. NPL’s recent “MEAD” study provides real-life examples of such success stories. Practical steps you can take, along with detailed calculations, are shown below.

Background

The recently published Methane Emissions from Anaerobic Digestion (MEAD) study, commissioned by the UK government and conducted by the National Physical Laboratory (NPL), assesses methane emissions across seven anaerobic digestion (AD) sites. While it raises important points on emissions monitoring, its limited sample size and methodology raise concerns about representativeness of the overall industry, and does not yet provide constructive steps for future development. Here, ADBA critically examines the report’s findings, highlights where conclusions may not reflect industry-wide performance, and outlines next steps for improving emissions reduction and increased sustainable AD development that is sorely needed in the UK.
